According to the Lonely Planet Guide there are several great Palaces to visit but if you only have little time you gotta see the Gyeongbokgung Palace. It is the biggest Palace in Seoul and easy to access if you go by metro (line 3, exit Gyeongbokgung Subway Station).
Overall the subway infrastructure is quite good and easy to understand. Just get an English subway map at the station information. My first visit shall be the Gyeongbokgung Palace in Seoul. On the way to the Palace the Changing of the Guards already happend but I was able to take a couple of pictures when they moved back.
The entry fee costs 3k WON, which is about 2 EUR... I find it extremely cheap. Once you go through the main entrance you can get a first glimpse of the Palace front court.
Further inside you find more ancient buildings, a pond, a pagode and much more. Just don't arrive too late at the Palace, as opening hours are short.
